Hoya sp. Sumatra (Wavy leaves) originated in Sumatra, Indonesia. Despite being a relatively recent discovery, we can provide insights based on our experiences cultivating these exquisite plants. In terms of physical attributes, the species thrives in warmer temperatures and exhibits signs of distress when exposed to temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Although it can tolerate low humidity, growth is accelerated in high humidity conditions. While the plant's veins and color contrast become less pronounced in low light, it does not impede the plant's overall quality. On the other hand, bright environments cause the veins to stand out more prominently, with leaf colors ranging from red to dark purple. The plant's striking red vein on the back further contributes to its sophisticated appearance.

Care Needs

Bright Light

No barrier between the plant and the light source. Ex: Directly under a grow light, in a sunny window with no curtains or trees.

Low Humidity: Ideally Above 40%

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

Intermediate: Lowest 60F

This hoya does not require high heat, but does not tolerate cold as well as other varieties.

Does Sunstress

This plant has evolved to shift color when exposed to bright sunlight, much like a human getting a tan. This does not harm the plant with proper care.
