Disclaimer:
The product listed here is for Hoya bahoi with splashy leaves. Please note that yellowing or dotting on the leaves may occur due to environmental factors such as humidity and temperature changes. This is a cosmetic issue and does not affect the health of the plant. By purchasing, you understand that the plant may have yellow spots or dots, which are normal.
Origin and Discovery:
Hoya bahoi, also known as Hoya sp. Bahoi, originates from the Songkhla province in Southern Thailand. This plant is appreciated for its unique foliage and potential for producing delicate, star-shaped flowers with a sweet fragrance as it matures. Although no formal botanical publication specifically documents this species, it is recognized among Hoya enthusiasts and cultivated widely for its aesthetic appeal.
Natural Habitat:
In its natural habitat, Hoya bahoi grows as an epiphyte, thriving in the crevices of trees and rocky landscapes. This adaptation allows it to require minimal watering, making it a great low-maintenance houseplant. It enjoys the warm and humid conditions typical of tropical environments.
Description:
Hoya bahoi is known for its small, heart-shaped leaves with a beautiful blend of deep green and reddish-purple margins. The leaves develop silver speckles that change with lighting conditions, adding a touch of elegance to any space. As the plant matures, it may produce clusters of star-shaped flowers that emit a delightful fragrance. The plant grows long, vining tendrils that can climb or trail, making it versatile for various display options.
Care Instructions:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some full sun to partial shade.
- Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Regular misting or using a pebble tray can help.
- Temperature: Ideal temperatures are above 57°F (14°C). It does not tolerate cold well.
- Soil: Requires well-draining soil to prevent overwatering issues.
Additional Note:
Hoya bahoi can be finicky, especially when acclimating to a new environment. New leaves may exhibit leaf blast if they don’t receive enough humidity or if it’s too cold. However, once acclimated, they are prolific growers.
