Introducing the Hoya MB1497, a distinctive hybrid Hoya plant that is a cross between Hoya erythrina and Hoya 'Genieve' (MB 1141). This plant stands out with its veining, flecks, and dark leaf margins. When nurtured under bright light, its leaf margins can transform into a radiant red to deep purple, showcasing its adaptability and beauty.
Historical Significance: The earliest mention of Hoya MB1497 dates back to August 2016. It was first introduced to the world by Susan Swartzfager on her Facebook page, "Hoya Creations." Susan is believed to be the designated grower assigned by Mike for this particular cultivar, marking its special place in the Hoya community.
A Tale of Two Sisters: Interestingly, Hoya MB1497 had a grex sister, which, to our knowledge, was never officially named or introduced. This sibling sported lighter pink flowers, offering a contrasting charm. On April 13, 2017, Susan conducted a poll to determine which of the two was more favored. The results leaned towards the darker flower of Hoya MB1497, as many believed its vibrant hue beautifully complemented the stunning margin it displayed in bright light.
Care Tips: While Hoya MB1497 is known to tolerate drier environments, it thrives best with light humidity care. This includes occasional misting and placing it alongside other houseplants.
