Origin and Description:
Hoya ‘Elephant’ is one of four unique seedlings personally selected by Larisa during a visit to Patcharawalai, a renowned Hoya grower. This particular variety was named “Elephant” due to its strikingly large leaves, which are said to resemble elephant ears in size and shape. Alongside Hoya ‘Elephant’, Larisa named three other Hoyas: Prikati, Manow, and Yenyen, each with their own special connection to Patcharawalai’s family.

Natural Habitat:
As a cultivated hybrid, the exact parentage of Hoya ‘Elephant’ is unknown. Like other Hoyas, it thrives in warm, humid environments and grows best with bright, indirect light.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.
  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, ensuring good drainage to avoid root rot.
  • Humidity: High humidity is preferred, though Hoya ‘Elephant’ can adapt to moderate humidity levels.
  • Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid exposure to cold drafts.

Fun Fact:
Hoya ‘Elephant’ not only stands out for its enormous leaves, but it also carries a bit of intrigue in its community history. AHhoya, a popular Hoya grower and seller, obtained this plant and gave it the accession number AH027. This number is now widely recognized within the Hoya community as another name for this cultivar. Despite the plant’s various labels, it remains beloved for its massive foliage and striking appearance.
